Reconstruction and animation of Rotation de carrés
The implied rotation in this print is more complex than it might initially look in the static original, as the animation demonstrates. Reading the elements left to right: the squares revolve in constant orientation around the circles, first 360° anticlockwise (if we read the uppermost left element as the origin of the cycle), and then 360° clockwise (if we look down the rows to see how the cycle continues). Each row reading top to bottom offsets the phase of the revolution cycle by 45°. By the bottom row, the leftmost element starts in the same visible position as its counterpart in the top row—but now halfway through the cycle.
